James Mathers was born in the Third Quarter 1878 .
1881 Census:- James age 2 is living with his father George age 37 born in Bramham – occupation Colliery Labourer, his mother Isabella age 39 born in Bramham – no occupation, siblings Thomas age 11 born in Bramham – scholar, Charles age 10 born in Seacroft – scholar, George William age 8 born in Swillington – scholar, Emma age 4 born in Allerton Bywater, James age 2 boen Allerton Bywater. Also living with them is John Fawcett – Brother in Law born in Bramham – occupation Labourer. They are living at 13 New Long Row, Great and Little Preston.
1891 Census:- James now age 12 is living with his father George age 48 – occupation Coal Miner, his mother Isabella age 49 – no occupation and siblings Thomas age 21 – occupation Coal Miner, Charles age 20 – occupation Coal Miner, George William age 18 – occupation Coal Miner, Emma age 14 – occupation Dressmaker. They are living at 18 Hill Street, Bowers Allerton, Great and Little Preston.
On the 16th March 1896 James age 17 was working at T & RW Bowers Colliery when he was involved in an accident and was killed, “Crushed between a wagon and a post”
James was buried at Allerton Bywater Church on the 19th March 1896.
