William Bradley was born December 1876 and was Baptised on the 8th December 1876 at St Jame’s Church, Wetherby.

1881 Census:- William age 4 is with his father John age 34 born in Sherriff Hutton, North Yorkshire – Occupation Farm Labourer his mother Dinah age 29 born in Halton, Leeds – no occupation,  and sister Caroline age 8 – Scholar. They are living at 16 Newsham Square, Templenewsham. (Williams place of birth on the Census Record is down as Hunslet) (After the 1881 Census Williams father John must have left the farming industry and gone to work at Waterloo Main Colliery)

1891 Census:- William now age 14 occupation Labourer is living with his mother Dinah age 40, his stepfather Samuel Robshaw age 60 born in Halton – occupation Labourer, sister Elizabeth A Bradley age 8 born in Halton 1883, stepsister Francis Mary Robshaw age 2 month. (Francis Mary Robshaw died on the 27th March 1886 age 2

Dinah Bradley married Samuel Robshaw on the 11th May 1890 after the death of her husband John in October 1883, killed while working at Waterloo Main Colliery (Inquest held at the Irwin Arms, Halton, and a verdict of “Accidently run over” was recorded see Coroners Report for John Bradley)

William left his mothers house at 1 Dial Row, Halton; after visiting her to return to his lodgings at Great Preston ready for starting  work at Albert Pit, T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery on the Monday morning. Monday 10th June 1898 he was working underground when there was a “Fall of Roof” and was killed.

An inquest was held at the Irwin Arms, Halton on the 5th July 1898 and a verdict of “Accidental Death” was recorded.

William Bradley was buried on the 7th July 1898 at St Mary’s Church, Whitkirk.
