Arthur Jackson 1862 – 1887

Arthur Jackson was born in Norfolk in 1861 and was Baptised on the 8th December 1861.

1871 Census:- Arthur age 9 – Scholar is living with his Grandfather Arthur Jackson age 66, Occupation Farm Labourer and Grandmother Mary Ann Jackson age 66 in the Parish of Gissing in Norfolk.

1881 Census:- Arthur now age 19 – occupation Coal Miner, has moved to Yorkshire to be with his parents, John Jackson age 42 born in Gissing, Norfolk, occupation Coal Miner, Mother Ann Jackson age 47 born Preston, Lancashire – no occupation. and younger brother William age 7 – Scholar, born in Allerton Bywater.

Also on the Census are Jane Crossland age 17 occupation Housework at home (Her relationship to John Jackson is shown as Daughter) and Samuel Crossland age 7 born in Allerton Bywater (His relationship to John Jackson is shown as son) Checked on the birth records for Jane Crossland and her parents are shown at William & Ann Crossland. On the 1871 Census for john and Ann Jackson there are five Crosland children living with them, Ellon age 16 born in Middleton, Harriet age 10 born in Hunslet, Jane age 8 born in Allerton Bywater, Emma age 5 born in Allerton Bywater and Samuel age 2 born in Allerton Bywater. In 1861 the Croslands were living in Methley with there children, William Crosland died in 1868 but I could find no trace of what happened to Ann Crosland, why did the Jacksons take in the Crossland children, were they related to the Jacksons?
On the 1891 Census for the Jackson family all the Crosland children now have the surname Jackson.

Arthur Jackson had an accident on the 4th June 1887 and was crushed by a bar whilst riding Corves at T & RW Bowers Allerton Colliery, Arthur died on the 6th June 1887 and was buried at Allerton Bywater Church on the 8th June 1887.
