Walter Tonkinson was born in Wigan, Lancs, in 1881 to Richard and Sarah.
On the 1891 Walter was 9 years ol, at school and living in Glasshoughton.
On the 1901 census he was 19 years old and living in Glasshoughton and working as a pony driver.
Walter married Martha Billbrough on the 3rd April 1904 at Whitwood Mere all saints.
On the 1921 census he was 39 and married. He was living in Bradford (visitor) and working for Airedale collieries as a miner.
Walter was killed on the 15th March 1932 at Allerton Bywater colliery. He was crushed by tubs.
The inquest gave a verdict of accidental death.
He was burried on the 19th March 1932. He was 50 years old.
