Peter Parkin was born in the 3rd Quarter of 1859, his birth was registered in Pocklington, North Yorkshire. He was baptised on the 12th July 1859 at Sutton upon Derwent, Yorkshire.

1861 Census:- Peter age 1 is with his father John age 55 – born in Sutton upon Derwent – occupation is Agricultural Labourer, his mother Jane age 38 born in – occupation is entered as Agricultural Labourers Wife,  sister Louisa age 10 born in Sutton upon Derwent – Scholar, sister Mary age 8 born in Sutton upon Derwent – Scholar, June age 6 born in Sutton upon Derwent – Scholar, John James age 4 born in Sutton upon Derwent – Scholar. Also living there is John’s father Peter Parkin age 85  born Barmby Moor, North Yorkshire – former Agricultural Labourer. They are living at Riverside House, Sutton upon Derwent.

1871 Census:- Peter age 11 – Scholar is living with his father John age 61 occupation Farm Labourer, mother Jane age 48 occupation entered as Labourers Wife, brother Robert age 9 born in Sutton upon Derwent – Scholar, On the Census Record their address is Boys & Girls School? – Cottage?

1881 Census:- Peter now age 21 is employed as an Indoor Farm Servant at Sutton Farm, a 300 Acre farm. Living there is the farmer Jonathan Beal age 24, his sister Margaret age 26, Martha Baxter  -General Servant Domestic, William Sanderson age 25 – Farm Servant, William Daniels age 16 – Farm Servant and Arthur Wadsworth age 16 – Farm Servant.

1889 – Extracts from Divorce Papers for Walker Harper v Alice Harper & Peter Parkin. Peter Parket committed Adultery when they were living as man & wife in Sutton upon Derwent. Walker Harper filed for divorce on the 5th March 1889 and Final Decree was dated 26th November 1889. (On the 1881 Census Form in these records the top entry is for Walker and Alice Harper and their children and Peter is lower down on the form working at Sutton Farm)

Between 1889 and 1891 Peter Parkin and Alice Harper moved from Sutton upon Derwent to Kippax, West Riding of Yorkshire.

1891 Census:- Peter now age 31 (Marital Status – Single) occupation Coal Miner/Horse Keeper (Underground) is living with Alice Harper (Marital Status Divorced) with two of her children James Percy Harper age 5 born in Sutton upon Derwent, Florrie Harper age 3 – born in Sutton upon Derwent and their Daughter Elsie Parkin age 1 – born in Kippax. They are living in High Street, Kippax.

1901 Census:- Peter age 41 – occupation Colliery Horse Keeper (Underground) is living with Alice Harper – occupation Housekeeper, her daughter Florrie Harper age 13 occupation Domestic Servant, their daughter Elsie Parker age 11, and Lucy Robinson age 1 – described as a Nursing Child born in West Rainton, County Durham. (Robinson was Alice Harpers maiden name, no indication as to who was the Mother) They are living in High Street, Kippax.

1911 Census:- Peter age 51 (still entered on Census Form as Single) – occupation Colliery Horse Keeper (Underground) is living with Alice Harper (Divorced) – no occupation, Percy (James) Harper age 25 – occupation Telegraph Linesman for General Post Office. (Percy is Alice Harpers son last shown on the 1891 Census) Elsie Parkin age 21 – no occupation. They are living at Parkers Fold, Kippax.

1921 Census:- Peter age 61 years 11 months (Single) his occupation is Underground Horse Keeper employed at Primrose Hill Colliery owned by Pease Partners Collieries. Is living with Alice Harper age 62 years 10 months (Married /Divorced) occupation Housekeeper, Alice’s daughter Florrie age 34 years 1 month – Occupation – Domestic Duties and their daughter Elsie Parkin age 32 years 1 month – occupation Domestic Duties. They are living at The Hollins, Kippax.

On the 5th March 1929 Peter Parkin injured his Spine after falling over while working at either Pease & Partners Primrose Hill Colliery or at T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery as other records show. He died on the 20th April 1929, no record of a Church Burial. Alice Harper died in 1930 and was buried at St Mary’s Church, Kippax.
