Edgar Goodall was born in June 1900 and was baptised on the 17th June 1900 at Great Preston, West Riding of Yorkshire.
1901 Census:- Edgar age 10 months born in Kippax is with his father Richard age 33 born in Swillington – occupation Coal Miner Hewer, his mother Minnie age 29 born in Hunslet, Leeds – no occupation, sister Leah age 9 born in Hunslet, Leeds, brother Harry age 7 born in Kippax, sister Amelia age 7 born in Kippax. They are living at 11 Side Row, Great Preston.
1911 Census:- Edgar now age 10 – scholar is with his father Richard age 43 – occupation Road Cleaner/Mender for the County Council, his mother Minnie age 40 – no occupation, brother Harry age 17 – occupation Colliery Labourer, sister Joy age 6 – scholar, sister Rene age 10 months, also living with them are two boarders James Scott age 21 born in Wigan in Lancashire – occupation Coal Miner Byeworker and Sidney Cousins age 23 – born Great Melton in Norfolk – occupation Coal Miner Byeworker. They are living at 11 Side Row, Great Preston.
1921 Census:- Edgar now age 21years 1 month – occupation Colliery Pony Driver for T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery (Temporarily Out of Work) is with his father Richard age 53years 6 months – occupation Colliery General Labourer at T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery (Temporarily away from Work) his mother Minnie age 51 years 1 month – occupation Home Duties, sister Joy age 17years 3 months – occupation Tailoress for Joseph May & Sons Tailors in Springwell Road, Holbeck, Leeds, sister Reenie age 10years 9 months – scholar (Full Time) also living there is Sidney Cousins age 33 years 9 months (Boarder) occupation Colliery Underground Road Repairer at T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery (Temporarily away from work)
Edgar was married to Laura Machin or Littlewood, on the 1939 Register Laura’s married name has been has been crossed out and Littlewood written in but unable to find a marriage record for Edgar and Laura Littlewood but did find the Civil Registration Marriage Index for Edgar and Laura Machin being married in 1937 at Pontefract. On the 1939 Register Edgar’s occupation is shown as “Road Corporal, Underground”.
Edgar was killed on the 16th November 1939, while filling a train of empties by horse into a passbye, he made some repairs to track then called out to drawer to bring out a train of full tubs. The second full tub collided with the empties and Edgar was trapped at the side of the road and killed.
Edgar was buried on the 20th November 1939 at Kippax Church.
