John Richard Fish was born in the third quarter of 1876 in Castleford, West Riding of Yorkshire. (No Baptism record found)
1881 Census:- John is age 4 and living with his parents John James Fish age 27 occupation General Dealer, mother Selina age 26 – no occupation, and his younger brother William Henry Fish age 1. They are living at No 28 West Street, Castleford. Johns father was born in Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire as was his younger brother, his mother Selina was born in Castleford.
1891 Census:- John now age 14 his occupation is Pot Hawker, he is still at home with his parents John James age 38 occupation Pot Hawker and his mother Selina – no occupation. Also living there are his brother William Henry age 11 – Scholar, sister Elizabeth Ann age 9 – Scholar, sister Polly age 7 Scholar, brothers Tom age 4 and Joseph E age 2.
Sometime in the nest two years John Richard Fish started work at Allerton Bywater Colliery.
On the 18th January 1892 he was involved in an accident on the Screens where he worked and was killed instantly.
An Inquest was held at the Queens Hotel in Castleford, a verdict of Accidental Death was recorded.
