Johnathan Henshaw was born in about 1836.
1841 Census:- Johnathan age 4/5 is living with his parents Johnathan age 30 occupation Coal Miner and his mother Sarah age 35 and sister Frances age 14, Mary age 9 and brother Thomas age 3 in Bath Street ?, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
1851 Census:- Johnathan now age 16 occupation Coal Miner is living with his parents Johnathan age 47 occupation Coal Miner and mother Sarah age 46 with brother Thomas age 14 occupation Coal Miner at Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, Also living at this address are several lodgers,
Mary Tunnicliffe age 42 a Maid whose occupation is shown as Needlework, Henry Tunnicliffe age 13, Jane Tunnicliffe age 8James Tunnicliffe age 7, Seth Riley age 43 occupation is shown as Home Work, Hannah Tham age 49 occupation Home Workand George Tham age 7. Taking in lodgers was a way of supplementing a families income.
On the 17th March 1855 Johnathan Henshaw Jnr was being tried in court at Derbyshire on a charge of Manslaughter due to an incident at the Colliery where he worked (See Newspaper clipping added by permission from Ashley Land) Johnathan Henshaw Jnr was given a 6 month Imprisonment sentence.
On the 24th March 1856 Johnathan age 19 was married to Jane Fullard age 17 at St Leodegabius Church, Basford, Derbyshire.
1861 Census:- Johnathan now age 24, occupation Coal Miner is living at with his wife Jane age 31 (Think this should be 21) and their children Thomas age 4 – Scholar and daughter Fanny age 1, they are lodging with John and Mary Windle at No 4 Rose Terrace, Tupton, Derbyshire.
1871 Census:- Johnathan age 32 occupation Coal Miner and his wife Jane age 31 have now moved to Altofts, Yorkshire and a living at No 4 Temple Place, Altofts with children Thomas age 13 occupation Coal Miner, Fanny age 11, Alfred age 10 Shadrack age 4, Abendego age 2 and Matthew age 6 months.
1881 Census:- Johnathan age 42 and wife Jane age 40 have moved to 10 Side Row, Great Preston, with children Thomas age 24 occupation Coal Miner, Fanny age 21, Shadrack age 16 occupation Colliery Pony Driver, Matthew age 10 – Scholar, Gravellener age 8 – Scholar, Mark age 5, Luke age 2 and Emma age 1.
Alfred age 20 is now living in Methley and was married to Eliza Bellwood on the 15th April 1881 at St Oswald Church, Methley.
Johnathan Henshaw was killed by a Fall of Roof at Allerton Main Colliery on the 25th July 1884.
