James Greenwood was born in about 1825 in Hunslet.
On the 1851 census he was living with his wife, Sarah, in Hunslet working as a coal miner.
On the 1861 census he was living with his wife sarah in Ledsham. He was was working as a coal miner.
On the 1871 census he was living in Methley and was listed as a widower. He was working as a coal miner.
In 1871 he married his second wife, Elizabeth Clayford, at St Oswalds church Methley.
On the 28th February 1872 James was killed, at the Bowers & Sons. Allerton Victoria pit, by a fall of roof. He was aged 47.
