James was born during 1856

1861 Census:- James age 5 is with his parents Henry age 47 – occupation Agricultural Labourer, mother Elisa age 48 born New Buckenham, Norfolk – no occupation, sisters Elisa age 12 – Scholar and sister Emily age 8 – Scholar. They are living at and were born in Saxlingham, Nethergate, Norfolk.

1871 Census:- James age 18 (should be 15) occupation Agricultural Labourer still with parents Henry age 56 occupation Agricultural Labourer, mother Elisa age 57 no occupation.

James was married in the first quarter 1878 to Caroline Ward.

1881 Census:- James age 26 occupation Coal Miner is now living in Micklefield with his wife Caroline age 24 born in Huntingdon – no occupation, they now have two children William H Tyrell age 2 and Walter age 1. On the Census Record their surname has been written down as Turrell

1891 Census:- James and his family have now moved to Colton, Temple Newsham near Leeds. James age 35 occupation Coal Miner is with his wife Caroline and their seven children, William H age 12 born Garforth – Scholar, Walter age 11 born Micklefield – Scholar, Lucy age 9 born in Garforth  – Scholar, Emily age 7 born in Garforth – Scholar, George age 6 born in Garforth, Eliza age 4 born in Garforth and Fred age 2 born in Colton.

James Tyrell was killed on the 29th October 1894 by a “Fall of Roof” while working at T & RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery.

James was buried at St Mary’s Church Whitkirk on the 2nd November 1894.
