Albert Whatmuff was born in Bowers Allerton in 1895, he was christened at Allerton Bywater Church on the 15th February 1895.

1891 Census:- Albert age 7 is living with his father Mark age 35 born in Heaton – occupation Coal Miner and mother Mary age 31 born in Kimberworth- Rotherham, sister Alice age 12 born in Bowers Allerton – Scholar , sister Sausa age 8 born Bowers Allerton, – Scholar, sister Emily age 5 born Bowers Allerton – Scholar. They are living at No 1 Queen Street, Bowers Allerton.

1901 Census:- Albert now age 17 his occupation is Underground Colliery Pony Driver is still at home with father Mark age 45 – occupation Coal Miner/Hewer and mother Mary age 42 – no occupation (in the disability column there is a remark that Mary suffered from Epilectic Fits), sister Alice age 22 – no occupation. Sister Emily age 15 – no occupation and brother John age 10 months born in Great Preston. (All the children are now showing as being born in Great Preston rather than Bowers Allerton) they are still living at No 1 Queen Street.

On the 16th March 1911 Albert was working underground  at T & RW Bowers colliery and was preparing to set a prop when there was a fall of roof 5feet long by 1,5 feet broad and 1.5 feet deep and Albert was killed. The fall came from three slips, the UK Colliery Accident and Deaths record also states that he should have had two more props set at least one hour before the fall took place.

Albert was buried at Allerton Bywater Church on the 19th March 1911. His Place of Abode on the Burial Record is New Street, Bowers Row.
