Samuel Coates was born in Leeds in about 1833.
On the 1861 census he was living in Adwalton and was married to Sarah and had a young son, Albert.
He was killed by a roof fall at TM Carter and Co. Allerton Bywater colliery on the 5th January 1868.
He was burried at Adwalton church, Drighlington, Bradford on the 8th January 1868.
