Richard was born on 20th September 1898 in Providence Place, Allerton Bywater to John & Eliza. His father was a miners blacksmith. He was baptised at Allerton Bywater church on October 23rd 1898.

In the 1939 census he is shown as living in Allerton Bywater at Malcombe ???? and married to Dorothy. His occupation is listed as Colliery haulage, underground.

Richard was killed in a mining accident on 20th July 1943. His occupation is listed as a shot firer and the description says he was cleaning gummings from the front of a prieviously bored shothole in bottom coal when the top coal fell from a hidden slip. Struck on head and killed.


Richard was burried in Allerton Bywater church yard in 23rd July 1843 by a methodist minister. He was 44 years old. His address is listed as at Cross Carlton Terrace.
