{"id":4442,"date":"2025-01-01T17:05:29","date_gmt":"2025-01-01T17:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abhistory.co.uk\/blog\/?p=4442"},"modified":"2026-06-22T09:59:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T09:59:28","slug":"1898-william-bradley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abhistory.co.uk\/blog\/?p=4442","title":{"rendered":"1898 &#8211; William Bradley"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">William Bradley was born December 1876 and was Baptised on the 8<sup>th<\/sup> December 1876 at St Jame\u2019s Church, Wetherby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1881 Census:- William age 4 is with his father John age 34 born in Sherriff Hutton, North Yorkshire \u2013 Occupation Farm Labourer his mother Dinah age 29 born in Halton, Leeds \u2013 no occupation,&nbsp; and sister Caroline age 8 \u2013 Scholar. They are living at 16 Newsham Square, Templenewsham. (Williams place of birth on the Census Record is down as Hunslet) (After the 1881 Census Williams father John must have left the farming industry and gone to work at Waterloo Main Colliery)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1891 Census:- William now age 14 occupation Labourer is living with his mother Dinah age 40, his stepfather Samuel Robshaw age 60 born in Halton \u2013 occupation Labourer, sister Elizabeth A Bradley age 8 born in Halton 1883, stepsister Francis Mary Robshaw age 2 month. (Francis Mary Robshaw died on the 27<sup>th<\/sup> March 1886 age 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dinah Bradley married Samuel Robshaw on the 11<sup>th<\/sup> May 1890 after the death of her husband John in October 1883, killed while working at Waterloo Main Colliery (Inquest held at the Irwin Arms, Halton, and a verdict of \u201cAccidently run over\u201d was recorded see Coroners Report for John Bradley)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">William left his mothers house at 1 Dial Row, Halton; after visiting her to return to his lodgings at Great Preston ready for starting&nbsp; work at Albert Pit, T &amp; RW Bowers Allerton Main Colliery on the Monday morning. Monday 10<sup>th<\/sup> June 1898 he was working underground when there was a \u201cFall of Roof\u201d and was killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An inquest was held at the Irwin Arms, Halton on the 5<sup>th<\/sup> July 1898 and a verdict of \u201cAccidental Death\u201d was recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">William Bradley was buried on the 7<sup>th<\/sup>
