Some dates of birth and ages of individuals in these records are inconsistent but I am sure the records are correct.<\/em><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samuell Newell was born in Fenton, Staffordshire circa 1858<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1871 Census \u2013 Samuel is living with his parents Samuel age 57 occupation Potters Printer, mother Ann age 46 \u2013 no occupation. Samuel is age 20 (Year of birth is 1851, and unable to read his occupation on the Census Record) brother Enoch age 17 and  sister Jane age 16,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also living there are the sister of Samuel Newall (Senior) Hannah Newall age 45, William Newall age 13 and Benjamin Newall age 11, difficult to read their occupations but looks as though they all worked in the Pottery Industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1881 Census:- Samuel is now age 25 occupation \u2013 Potter (Birth year now down as circa 1856, Samuel is now married to Mary ???? age 23 and are living at 9 Havelock Street, Fenton, Staffordshire, they have two children Samuel age 5 – Scholar and Ellen age 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1891 Census:- Samuel age now down as 38 and his family have moved to Oulton near Woodlesford in the West Riding of Yorkshire and are living at Beecroft Yard in Oulton. His occupation is Coal Miner, he is living with his wife Mary age 32 \u2013 no occupation, son Samson (Samuel on 1881Census) age 14 \u2013 Colliery Pony Driver, daughter Julia Ann age 8, Mary Jane  age 4 and daughter Olive age 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 19th<\/sup> March 1891 Samuel Newell was convicted for damaging a door and was sentenced to 28 days in HMP Wakefield or pay \u00a31 \u2013 18 shillings and 6 pence. His age is shown as 36, height 5ft 3 3\/4inch, Hair or eyes are Brown. Education \u2013 None. Whether he paid the fine or served his sentence is not known, but on the Prison Record there is no date of discharge, so we would assume he paid a fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1894 Samuel was involved in an accident while he and two others Robert Saville (Colliery Undermanager) and James Davison were installing pipework to extract gas from mine workings at T & R W Bowers Allerton Main Colliery (Albert Mine) and died on the 19th<\/sup> May 1894. His birth year on the UK Coal Mining Accident and Deaths Record is 1858. An Inquest was held at the Angel Inn, Allerton Bywater and after a summing up the jury recorded an \u201cOpen Verdict\u201d as there was no blame attached to anyone. (See newspaper cutting concerning the Inquest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1906 his daughter Julia Annie was married in Hunslet to James Walworth, Samuel is shown on the marriage certificate as a Miner (Dead)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
