A derrick prob snapped when the coal cutter motor started and flew. It caused a double hernia. He walked out of the pit but died of his injuries on the 31st May 1940.<br><br>This information is taken from the UK, Coal mining and death index &#8211; 1871-1951 and the England mining disaster victims. At this time I have been unable to find any other record of John.
