Mark was born in the Fourth Quarter of 1876 in Summercoates, Derbyshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1881 Census:- Mark is shown on the Census as age 3 (Think this should be 5) and is living at 17 Russell Court, Summercoates, Derbyshire with his parents Charles age 29 occupation  – Labourer, his mother Caroline age 23 no occupation, Mark has a younger brother George age 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometime after 1881 the family moved to Mickletown, Methley. Mark left home in Methley at a quarter to five in the morning to start his new job at Lowther’s Allerton Main Colliery as a Pony Driver. He was shown how to drive the ponies and move the corves and all was going well until he started to go down an incline too fast, he was told to move out of the way but did not and was dragged under the corves. Taken out of the pit and transported home by Ambulance. According to the Coroners report the accident occurred on Friday the 25th<\/sup> October 1889 which the Coal Mining Accidents and Death Record shows, his doctor was visiting him 2 to 3 times per day. The Coroners report says he died on the Thursday night. This must have been Thursday 30th<\/sup> October 1889 nearly a week later. Coroners verdict was Accidental Injury, but the date for his death is shown on the UK Coal Mining & Accidents Record as 25th<\/sup> October 1889 and not the 30th<\/sup> October 1889. This record also shows the cause of his death as \u201cFall of Roof\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
