Charles Edward Crossthwaite was born in August 1864 at Lane End, Whitkirk. On the Church Baptism Record his fathers name is not shown but on the Ancestry detail sheet it is down as just Crosthwaite. Charles was Baptised on the 28th<\/sup> August 1864 at St Mary Church, Whitkirk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1871 Census, Charles age 6 is now living with his Grandmother and her son, Charles’s two brothers William age 16  a Coal Miner and Miles age 4 a Scholar are also living there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1881 Census. Charles age 16 his occupation a Coal Miner is now living with his Aunt and Uncle who are running a Grocery Shop in Scarcroft, Leeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1885 whilst Charles was working underground at Bowers West Allerton Colliery he was struck by a drill and killed while trying to drill out a missed shot. On the 21st<\/sup> December the inquest was carried out at the Angel Inn, Allerton Bywater although the Newspaper report does not show a verdict we have to assume that it would be an Accidental Death. On the 22nd<\/sup> December 1885 Charles Edward Crossthwaite was buried at St Mary Church, Whitkirk. On the Church Burial Record his place of Abode is shown as Allerton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
