He was was working as a coal miner.<br>On the 1871 census he was living in Methley and was listed as a widower. He was working as a coal miner.<br>In 1871 he married his second wife, Elizabeth Clayford, at St Oswalds church Methley. <br>On the 28th February 1872 James was killed, at the Bowers &amp; Sons. Allerton Victoria pit, by a fall of roof.
